The Pixel Watch Water Drop Toggle Is More Useful Than You Think

Can’t find the Touch Lock toggle on your Pixel Watch? You’re not alone. About a year ago, Google rolled out Wear OS 6 to all Pixel Watch models and quietly renamed it to “Water Lock” — now labeled with a water drop icon that tells you almost nothing about what it actually does.

Where to Find Water Lock on the Pixel Watch

The old Touch Lock toggle in Quick Settings was a hand-with-a-padlock icon that clearly meant “turn off touch input.” The new Water Lock icon is a drop of water, which is far less obvious — and it leads many people to assume it’s only useful around water.

Despite the name, Water Lock is useful in plenty of dry situations: sleeping with the watch on, working out, or any activity where accidental wrist touches could pause your music, end a call, or trigger random taps.

How Water Lock Works (and How to Turn It Off)

Google also changed the behavior recently. Previously, Touch Lock only disabled the touch screen — you could still scroll with the rotating crown. Now, Water Lock disables both the touch screen and crown rotation. The only way out is to press and hold the crown for two seconds to turn it off.

You also don’t always need to toggle it yourself. The Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 5 automatically enable Water Lock when excessive moisture is detected, and starting a swim workout enables it automatically on all Pixel Watch models.

So the next time you see that little water drop in Quick Settings, don’t ignore it: it’s the fastest way to lock your screen against accidental touches — wet or dry.
