The Mass Effect fan revolt is escalating. Days after EA announced it would shut down BioWare and cancel the next Mass Effect game, furious fans are calling for a full boycott of all EA products and services — and the petition to save the franchise has now smashed more than 75,000 signatures.
It’s a devastating week for RPG fans. On October 21, EA revealed plans to close BioWare, the 30-year-old studio that defined Western RPGs with Dragon Age, Jade Empire, Baldur’s Gate and, of course, Mass Effect. Players expecting news on the next game in the beloved sci-fi franchise instead got confirmation the project was officially cancelled.

Mass Effect Petition Passes 75,000 Signatures After BioWare Shutdown
In the two days since the announcement, fans have rallied under the hashtag #savemasseffect, begging EA to at least sell off BioWare’s IP to other studios rather than let it languish. Tensions have reached the point where players are now urging an outright boycott of EA until something is done.
On Reddit, threads are urging players to make their voices heard before the noise fades. “WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!” one Redditor wrote. “We have to start something here and cry out loud enough that this game can be saved. Either EA making it or selling it off.”
Fans Threaten Boycott of Respawn, DICE, EA Sports and More
Another fan laid out the boycott terms bluntly: unless EA sells Mass Effect to another studio or brings it back, “I will never buy another EA product ever” — naming Respawn Entertainment, DICE, Motive Studios, Criterion Games, Maxis, Full Circle, Cliffhanger Games and EA Sports as targets.
With the petition climbing past 75,000 signatures and boycott talk growing louder by the hour, the question now is whether EA will respond — or let one of gaming’s most beloved universes go quiet.
