The film had already made its way to North American audiences through Crunchyroll Anime Nights, which screened it in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on August 17 with Korean audio and English subtitles. The streaming debut completes that journey, bringing one of the most quietly acclaimed animated films of the last year to the platform’s massive audience.
Your Letter: The Story Behind the Crunchyroll Streaming Release
Your Letter adapts a beloved webtoon that earned a near-perfect 9.98 rating during its run. The story follows Sori, a transfer student who finds a mysterious letter hidden in her school desk drawer. Each clue inside leads her to the next letter, turning her new school into a treasure hunt — and along the way she keeps crossing paths with a classmate named Dong-soon, who is chasing the same trail of letters.
Directed by Kim Yong-hwan (A Day Before Us), the film is a full in-house Korean production from Studio Lico and Studio N, distributed by Lotte Entertainment. It premiered at the 2024 Ottawa International Animation Festival and swept three prizes at the Bucheon International Animation Festival — the Jury Award for Feature Film, Best Music, and Best Technical Achievement. AKMU’s Lee Su-hyun voices the lead Sori and performs the film’s soundtrack.
Korean Animation’s Big Moment on Crunchyroll
The release fits a larger wave: Korean studios are increasingly producing webtoon adaptations in-house from start to finish. Your Letter was presold to 166 countries before release, and the Japanese version — distributed by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind Your Name and Suzume — opened in Japanese theaters with a Japanese dub in September 2026.
With its hand-drawn visuals and gentle, lyrical storytelling, Your Letter proves that a soft, emotional Korean story can travel just as far as any blockbuster franchise. If you missed the Anime Nights screening, October 23 is your day.
