100 Days of Deception Episode 5: Kim You Jung Reaches a Turning Point as Fukuda Closes In

Kim You Jung’s Lee Ga Kyeong reaches a turning point in her fledgling spy career in episode 5 of tvN’s “100 Days of Deception”, airing October 24 at 9:10 p.m. KST, as police chief Fukuda grows suspicious inside the Government-General.

Set during the Japanese occupation of Korea, “100 Days of Deception” is a period spy romance starring Kim You Jung as Lee Ga Kyeong, a pickpocket who becomes an undercover spy for the independence movement and infiltrates the Japanese Government-General of Korea. There she becomes entangled with interpreter Kim Tae Woong, played by GOT7’s Park Jinyoung, who also goes by Sato Hideo and is the adopted son of the Inspector-General of Korea.

The setup has always been dangerous, but the previous episode raised the stakes for everyone at once. While the independence group Gugukdan fell into a trap set by Sato Shinichi, played by Jin Sun Kyu, Lee Ga Kyeong discovered Sato Hideo standing right outside the door immediately after she made a secret phone call to Yoo Philip, played by Lee Moo Saeng.

Kim You Jung Faces Police Chief Fukuda in 100 Days of Deception Episode 5

Newly released stills from the upcoming episode show just how precarious her position has become. In one tense confrontation, Lee Ga Kyeong faces police chief Fukuda, played by Kim Joong Hee, in an unfamiliar space outside the Government-General building. Fukuda presses her aggressively, his glare intimidating, while she cowers in fear.

It is the kind of scene that shows the cost of her double life. A spy can survive on charm and quick thinking only for so long; sooner or later, someone with real power starts asking the wrong questions, and there is nowhere left to hide. Fukuda’s growing suspicion inside the Government-General is exactly that moment for Lee Ga Kyeong.

In another set of stills, the aftermath is written all over her. Soaked in the rain and out of her spy attire, Lee Ga Kyeong is visibly upset, trying to suppress her emotions as she packs her belongings and prepares to leave. The image of a drenched, shaken heroine packing to go suggests a decision has been forced on her, not chosen freely.

Will Kim You Jung Have a Change of Heart in 100 Days of Deception?

Then comes the encounter that raises the biggest question of the episode. When Lee Ga Kyeong comes face to face with Yoo So Ran, played by Kim Hyun Joo, her expression is full of anger, while Yoo So Ran looks back with a wavering gaze, seemingly shaken by her words.

That clash, paired with the production team’s tease, points to the heart of episode 5. “In Episode 5, which airs today, Lee Ga Kyeong will face the reality of her spy activities and reach a new turning point,” the team said, urging viewers to watch her fate as it becomes even more precarious and dangerous.

The wording matters. Facing the reality of her spy work is not the same as simply surviving another close call. It suggests Lee Ga Kyeong may question what she signed up for, what it is costing her, and whether she can keep going. Will she have a change of heart, double down on her mission, or find a third path no one expects?

With Fukuda closing in, Gugukdan in crisis and her own emotions spilling over, episode 5 looks set to be the moment “100 Days of Deception” stops being a story about a pickpocket learning to spy, and becomes a story about what spying does to the person doing it.
