Chelsea 2-0 Spurs Player Ratings: Penders Own-Goal Nightmare and Palmer's First Senior Red Card

Tottenham stunned Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge — only their second win there in 42 visits — and the player ratings tell the story of a night to forget for the home side. Debutant goalkeeper Mike Penders scored a calamitous own goal, Cole Palmer saw red for the first time at senior level, and Mathys Tel sealed it with a stunning late strike.

Here is how the players rated after a miserable evening for Chelsea and a famous one for Spurs.

Chelsea Player Ratings vs Tottenham: Penders Nightmare, Palmer Sees Red

Mike Penders (4) — The 21-year-old, starting in place of the injured Emiliano Martinez, looked assured until disaster struck: he punched a corner into his own net, then was beaten at his near post by Tel’s late finish. A debut to forget.

Moises Caicedo (8) — Chelsea’s best player on the night. The midfielder constantly won possession and disrupted Spurs’ rhythm, winning his battle with James Maddison before the Spurs man was forced off.

Pedro Neto (7) — Arguably Chelsea’s standout attacker, excellent defensively and a threat going forward, though his well-struck second-half effort was saved.

Cole Palmer (4) — Contributed well in the press and tested Antonin Kinsky with a curling effort, but his night unravelled in nine minutes of ill-discipline: booked for pushing over Mateus Fernandes to spark a flashpoint, then sent off for a late tackle on Conor Gallagher. His first senior red card.

Josh Acheampong (6), Maxence Lacroix (6), Levi Colwill (6) — A largely solid backline in front of Penders, with Acheampong continuing to emerge as a reliable presence. Jordan Henderson (6) was effective in midfield but should have buried Chelsea’s best first-half chance in the 36th minute. Jorrel Hato (5) had a quiet evening containing Mohammed Kudus, while Geovany Quenda (6) and Morgan Rogers (6) both lacked a decisive touch in the final third.

Tottenham Player Ratings: Van de Ven and Robertson Impress

Jan-Paul van Hecke (7) and Micky van de Ven (7) were assured at the back, with Van de Ven the most adventurous of the defenders carrying the ball forward. Andy Robertson (7), on his 300th Premier League start, shook off a shaky start to influence both ends of the pitch.

Mateus Fernandes (7) recovered from an early giveaway to control midfield as the deepest midfielder — and his corner led to the opening goal. Archie Gray (6) kept Quenda quiet, while goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky (5) survived two poor kicks and a Rogers shot that nearly slipped through his grasp in the rain.

The night, though, belonged to Tel. His spectacular dribble and finish in the 87th minute put the result beyond doubt and capped a famous away win — one that will live long in the memory for a Spurs side that so rarely leaves Stamford Bridge with anything.
