Rob Van Dam is not interested in rewriting history just because someone has passed away, and that includes his complicated relationship with WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall. The former WWE Champion opened up on his 1 Of A Kind With RVD podcast about several uncomfortable encounters with Hall, explaining why their relationship was never as positive as fans might assume.

The subject came up while Van Dam was defending his continued criticism of Bobby Fulton. He argued that someone’s death does not automatically erase the experiences people had with them, and he refuses to colour his stories to make fans feel better about their favourite wrestlers.

As he put it, if you never made amends with a person, your feelings about them stay rooted in your actual experiences. Firsthand stories, he said, are not always going to sound the way fans want them to, because that would not be honest.

Rob Van Dam Scott Hall: The Uncomfortable Night in England

One encounter that stuck with Van Dam happened at a For The Love Of Wrestling convention in England. He recalled ending up at a bar with Hall, who began opening up about personal matters in a way that quickly became uncomfortable.

Hall pointed out that despite knowing each other for years, the two had never sat down together for a beer. Van Dam played along, but there was already history between them: he remembered a time they were supposed to smoke together, only for Hall to back out after allegedly telling Sean Waltman that RVD was a stooge.

Van Dam found the label laughable, comparing it to being called dishonest by Bobby Fulton. In his view, he was the opposite of the person Hall described, which made the accusation unbelievable to him.

Hall’s Troubled Mood and the Katie Forbes Moment

Things grew heavier when Hall began asking Van Dam whether he knew about his past and what he had done. Van Dam recalled Hall looking disgusted with life, and said it simply was not a scene he wanted to hang around in that night.

He also described another occasion where Hall abruptly ended a conversation with Katie Forbes the moment Van Dam showed up, another small moment that coloured how he remembers their relationship.

Van Dam acknowledged that many wrestling fans would have loved the chance to spend an evening with Hall. But his own perspective was different, shaped by years of crossing paths backstage rather than by fandom. His message to listeners was simple: he will keep telling his stories as he remembers them, whether or not they match the version fans prefer.
