Alexander Isak is finally delivering the numbers Liverpool expected when they paid a British record £125 million for him, scoring his sixth Premier League goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Brighton. The Sweden striker has now scored more than half of Liverpool’s league goals this campaign, and only Erling Haaland has more in the division.

Isak arrived at Anfield in August 2025 from Newcastle amid huge expectation, but his first season turned into a nightmare. A slow start was followed by a broken leg in December, and he finished with just four goals in 22 games.
Alexander Isak’s Turnaround Under Andoni Iraola
This season has told a very different story. His goal against Brighton on Sunday helped Liverpool to an impressive win over the league’s in-form side, and took his tally to six already. At almost a goal per game, and averaging 0.95 goals per 90 minutes, Isak is producing exactly the kind of output Liverpool signed him for.
As against Brentford the previous weekend, Isak did not necessarily dominate the whole game against Brighton. But once again, he produced the decisive moment, giving Liverpool breathing space against a side that had 64 percent possession and finished with a higher expected goals total.
Liverpool’s Patience Rewarded
Inside the club, the belief during Isak’s injury-hit first season was that this was a long-term signing, and that judgement should wait until he was fully fit. That patience now looks well placed, with Liverpool winning four league games in a row since their loss to Manchester City at Anfield a fortnight ago.
Manager Andoni Iraola, who secured his first league win at Anfield at the fourth attempt, praised Isak’s threat in the final third, particularly when Liverpool can get him into good crossing positions. Isak himself pointed to the first-half intensity and ball-winning as the foundation of the performance.
The most worrying thing for the rest of the league is that, by Iraola’s own assessment, Isak is nowhere near his best yet. With Arsenal next up in the league, Liverpool’s record signing is hitting form at exactly the right time.
