Christopher Abbott has shut down speculation about an early Marvel debut, insisting his Professor X will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. The actor says he needs to finish the X-Men reboot first before any team-up cameos.

Christopher Abbott Professor X not in Avengers Doomsday
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Abbott was pressed on whether fans would see his shaved head facing off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the next year or so. His answer was blunt: “No, I’m not in that.” He added, “I gotta do the ‘X-Men’ movie first before any of that stuff.”
Marvel Studios confirmed Abbott as the new Charles Xavier at D23 earlier this year, with the X-Men reboot dated for May 2028. That gives him plenty of time to prepare for the role of the mutant team’s leader — but, by his own account, no detours into the Avengers saga beforehand.
What this means for the new X-Men cast
Doomsday and Secret Wars are saga-ending event films packed with A-listers and cameos, and the 2000s-era X-Men — including Patrick Stewart’s version of Charles Xavier — have already appeared in Doomsday trailers. That had fuelled hopes the new mutant cast might also pop up early.
If Abbott is out, though, an early MCU debut for the rest of the new X-Men looks less likely — with the notable exception of Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, who remains the one name still tipped for a pre-reboot appearance. For now, fans will have to wait until 2028 to see Abbott’s Professor X in action.
