If you have just picked up a Nintendo Switch 2, the cheapest insurance you can buy might also be the simplest: a good hard shell case. Amazon is offering the Turtle Beach PlayTrek Nintendo Switch 2 Hard Shell Slim Case for just $14.99, after a 20 percent instant discount, and at that price it is hard to argue with.

Carrying cases for the Switch 2 come in all shapes and sizes, depending on whether you want to pack a charger, extra controllers and a stack of games, or just protect the console itself. The PlayTrek is firmly in the second camp: small, sleek and built to survive everyday bumps and scrapes, without turning your handheld into a suitcase.
Turtle Beach PlayTrek Switch 2 Case $15: What You Get
The PlayTrek is an officially licensed Nintendo product that fits the Switch 2 console with its Joy-Con controllers attached. Its moulded rigid EVA shell exterior is designed to protect against scratches and minor impacts, the kind of knocks a handheld picks up in a bag, on a commute or in a busy household.
A TPU coating adds grip, so the case is less likely to slip out of your hand, and inside there is a padded flap that holds up to fourteen game cards. That is a generous allowance for a slim case, and it means you can carry a decent rotation of games without a separate card holder.
The trade-off is exactly what the name promises: this is a slim case by design, so you will not be able to fit much else inside. There is no room here for a bulky charger or a Pro Controller. If you want an all-in-one travel kit, you will need a larger case. If you want protection that disappears into a bag, this is the point.
Is the PlayTrek Worth $15?
IGN’s deals team points to one obvious comparison: the Tomtoc Slim, which the author owns and highly recommends for its smooth zipper, quality materials and slim footprint. The catch is price. The Tomtoc Slim costs $10 more than the PlayTrek, which is a 40 percent price difference for a similar style of case.
Ten dollars might not sound like much on its own, but in the run-up to Black Friday, that saving can go straight toward a game instead. For a case whose main job is to stop scratches and absorb small drops, paying less for a licensed, well-reviewed alternative makes a lot of sense.
The verdict is simple: if you need a slim, durable home for your Switch 2 and you do not need to carry anything else, $14.99 for the Turtle Beach PlayTrek is a steal. It is cheap insurance for a console you will be carrying everywhere, and at this price, there is little reason to leave a new Switch 2 unprotected.
