David Bowie Immersive Concert Experience Stage From Brett Morgen to World Premiere at Berlin Film Festival on February 14, 2027

David Bowie is returning to the arena stage — nearly 50 years after the show was filmed. The immersive concert experience “Stage”, from Moonage Daydream director Brett Morgen, will world premiere on February 14, 2027 at Berlin’s Uber Arena during the Berlin Film Festival.

The experience is built around recently discovered and restored footage from Bowie’s 1978 Isolar II World Tour, during which he performed material from his album “Heroes.” The footage was shot at London’s Earls Court and conceived by Bowie himself as a concert film — but he shelved it, later saying he simply did not like the way it had been shot.

David Bowie Stage Berlin Premiere and 2027 Tour Dates

The premiere, presented in association with the 77th Berlin Film Festival, marks a rare foray into alternative programming for the European film event. Tickets go on sale on October 30, and the show will then tour Europe in May 2027 across Germany, Austria, France and more, before heading to the UK in June and July — including a return to Earls Court.

Morgen unearthed the original 35mm footage a decade ago while working on the Grammy-winning Moonage Daydream, and has spent years restoring it with colour grading, relighting and hand-painted work. The production, from Wonderworld in collaboration with the David Bowie Estate, pairs the footage with immersive audio mapping, an integrated light show and transparent LED screens designed to create the illusion that Bowie and his band are physically present on stage.

Why the Lost 1978 Bowie Concert Matters

The Isolar II concerts are considered among the best live performances of Bowie’s career, with contemporary critics left spellbound by his voice and stage presence. It has taken five decades for technology to catch up with Bowie’s original vision — and the result blurs the line between cinema and a live concert.

For fans who never got to see Bowie live, “Stage” is the closest thing to a time machine: a lost 1978 show, restored frame by frame, playing arenas in 2027.
