Noah Wyle Named People's 2026 Sexiest Man Alive After The Pitt Career Comeback

After more than three decades in television emergency rooms, Noah Wyle has officially been named People’s 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, taking over the coveted title for the first time in his career.

The The Pitt star admitted he was in disbelief when he heard the news. In his interview with People, Wyle said he thought it sounded like a prank, adding that he never imagined in a million years that the honour would be bestowed on him.

Wyle first won over television audiences in 1994 as medical student and later doctor John Carter on NBC’s ER, starring alongside George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Sherry Stringfield and Julianna Margulies. Across the show’s run, he earned three Golden Globe nominations and five Emmy nominations, though he never took home either prize for the role.

The connection between Wyle and Clooney has come full circle this year. Back in January, at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, Clooney joked that the organisation should publish a “sexiest man still alive” issue, and said he would nominate Wyle as the first man on the list. Clooney even quipped that when he grows up, he wants to be Noah Wyle.

Sixteen years after ER ended in 2009, Wyle returned to the hospital corridor as Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, the disgruntled attending physician at the centre of HBO’s The Pitt. The role has sparked a full career resurgence across the show’s first two seasons, earning him the Golden Globe for best actor in a television drama in 2026 and back-to-back Emmy awards for best actor in a drama series in 2025 and 2026.

Season 3 of the hit medical drama is set to premiere in January 2027, meaning Wyle will carry the Sexiest Man Alive crown into another year in the emergency room.

Who Did Noah Wyle Succeed as Sexiest Man Alive?

Wyle succeeds Wicked star Jonathan Bailey, who was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025 and was the first openly gay man to receive the title. The annual honour was launched in 1985, when Mel Gibson became its first winner, and it is now in its 41st year.

Since then, the cover has featured some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend and Idris Elba. Wyle now joins that list, not as a newcomer, but as a television veteran whose second act has turned out to be even bigger than his first.

For fans who have followed him since ER, the timing feels fitting: the doctor who spent years saving fictional lives on screen is now, officially, the man of the year.
