The Cornwells, whose father was iconic British spy author John le Carré, have reshaped the company’s leadership as it builds its next slate of le Carré adaptations.
The Ink Factory Cornwells chairmen roles
Simon Cornwell becomes Executive Chairman, succeeding Rod Henwood, who remains on the board and becomes Deputy Chairman. Stephen Cornwell has taken on a Creative Co-Chairman role, providing creative and strategic support across the company’s slate and operations.
Stephen Cornwell’s primary focus will be the BBC and MGM+ series The Legacy of Spies, which he is showrunning. The series, produced by The Ink Factory in co-production with Amusement Park Film, stars Matthew Macfadyen as iconic le Carré spy George Smiley.
At the same time, Creative Director Michelle Wolkoff has been promoted to President and Chief Creative Officer, while Ian Spence becomes Chief Financial and Operating Officer.
What the Ink Factory reshuffle means for Night Manager fans
The Ink Factory was founded by Stephen and Simon Cornwell as an independent film and television studio, and it has built its reputation on ambitious, genre-defining adaptations of le Carré’s work.
The second series of The Night Manager was released in January, keeping the company’s flagship spy brand firmly in the spotlight, and The Legacy of Spies is now one of its most anticipated upcoming projects.
With Simon Cornwell as Executive Chairman, Stephen Cornwell as Creative Co-Chairman and Wolkoff leading the creative team as President and Chief Creative Officer, the company has put its founding family and its senior creative leadership at the centre of its next chapter.
For fans, that structure suggests continuity: the same people who built The Night Manager will remain in charge as The Legacy of Spies moves forward, with a clear focus on the le Carré universe that made The Ink Factory’s name.
