Rosen has been Deputy Chair for the past year, and will be succeeded in that role by Ade Rawcliffe and Andrew Miller, in a leadership reshuffle announced by the organisation.
BAFTA names Hilary Rosen new chair
Rosen is a well-regarded TV commissioner who has risen through the ranks at BBC Studios-owned UKTV to become Director of Commissioning. In that role she leads its slate of original scripted and unscripted content, including Mark Gatiss’ Bookish and Mitford Sisters drama Outrageous.
Her appointment puts a working commissioner at the head of BAFTA, an organisation that holds TV and film awards each year and also runs training programmes and events for the screen industries.
“I have long been passionate about everything BAFTA does to promote the screen arts and champion talent across the screen industries, so it is a great privilege to take on the role of BAFTA Chair,” Rosen said. “I am delighted to be able to do this alongside our newly appointed committee chairs.”

Those new chairs are Charu Desdot and Caroline Levy, who will chair BAFTA’s Games and Television Committees, while Nahrein Kemp will take up the role of LIT Committee Chair.
Additionally, Shrina Shah, Chair of the Governance and Appointments committee, will join the BAFTA Board of Trustees, completing a broad refresh of the organisation’s leadership.
Putt’s departure after three years marks the end of a term in which BAFTA has continued to balance its high-profile awards ceremonies with its wider work supporting talent, education and access across film, television and games.
Rosen’s background in commissioning, and her experience as Deputy Chair over the past year, should make for a smooth transition as she takes on one of the most visible roles in the UK screen industry.
