Georgie Manga English Release Date and Publishers
The announcement, made on Monday, pairs two publishers with very different strengths. Omoi will handle the digital release, while Manga Mavericks Books — the publishing arm of the Manga Mavericks website and podcast — will bring the series to print. For fans of classic shojo manga, it is a rare chance to own a beloved 1980s series in an official English edition.
What Is Georgie About?
Georgie follows a lively young girl living with her mother and two older brothers in the Australian countryside. Her life changes forever when she meets Lowell, a young English noble, and the encounter sends her on a journey to England to uncover her roots. It is a sweeping, emotional story in the classic shojo tradition, mixing adventure, romance and family secrets.
The original manga ran in Shogakukan’s Sho-Comi magazine from 1982 to 1984, and it later inspired the 1983 anime adaptation Lady Georgie. A previous print edition from Fairbell wrapped up back in April 2014, making this new English release a long-awaited revival for international readers.
Why This License Matters for Classic Manga Fans
Manga Mavericks Books only launched its publishing division in April 2025, with a mission to license, localize and distribute works from indie creators in Japan around the world. Landing a well-known classic like Georgie is a major statement of intent. Omoi, meanwhile, has been building its English-language digital manga library since launching in June 2021, offering simulpub chapters shortly after their Japanese debut alongside a back catalogue of titles.
With the digital edition landing in spring 2027 and print volumes arriving that August, fans will not have to wait too long to revisit — or discover for the first time — one of shojo manga’s most enduring heroines.
