What Is Phantom Busters About?
Why bother fighting spectral foes like other exorcists when you can just eat them? That is the hook of Phantom Busters. Straight-A student Eugene Korekishi does not believe in ghosts, but his classmate Mogari Shishikuno is an exorcist who swallows them whole. Mogari cannot see ghosts on his own, so once the pair meet someone with the sight, the only path forward is forming an exorcist club at school.
Joined by new recruit Kaoru Kanzaki, the group sets its sights on a fourth member: Kotaro Tamon, a classmate who seems able to talk to ghosts but struggles badly at communicating with living humans. Whether Kotaro can overcome his anxiety and join the Phantom Busters drives much of the story’s charm.
Neoshoco launched the manga in Jump SQ. in 2023, and Shueisha published its eighth compiled volume on October 2. Viz Media, which releases the manga in English, put out the fifth volume on October 6. With more than 1.4 million copies in circulation including digital sales, the series has built a solid fanbase ahead of its anime debut.
