TV Tokyo has teamed up with short-anime studio Plott to create Mecha Samurai, a new short anime with original main character designs by Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei. The series will stream on YouTube and other online platforms starting in November, with its main run arriving next spring.

The announcement marks a first for the broadcaster: this is TV Tokyo’s first anime production built around streaming and social media distribution rather than a traditional television slot.
Mecha Samurai Story: Mechanical Ghosts Invade Present-Day Japan
The series is described as an unorthodox samurai action story set in present-day Japan. Mechanical ghosts known as Yōkai — a word combining the kanji for ghost and machine — pour out of a Demon Gate from another dimension and begin attacking people.
Standing against them is a young man named Chiaki Kuzumi, who fights as a samurai. His weapon is a katana carrying the very power of the mechanical ghosts he hunts, turning the enemy’s strength into his own.
Mecha Samurai Cast and Release Dates
Kentarō Mashiro voices Chiaki, who is chosen by the legendary katana Benitora as its wielder. Riona Yamashita plays Sana Fujimiya, a high-energy gamer girl from a prestigious family who wields the Tsukutsuku Denden katana and can command Tsukumogami, spirits said to dwell in household appliances.
Ayumu Mizukami takes on two roles: Kiyoharu Obana, a money-obsessed fighter who refuses to work for free and wields the gun-shaped katana Murakumo, and Kaoru Rindō, a special instructor at a samurai training institute. Masaaki Mizunaka also voices a character in the series, while creative studio TO2KYO2 handles the graphic designs.
Fans will not have to wait long for a first look. Vertical shorts begin streaming on November 2 across YouTube, X, Instagram and TikTok, followed by a pre-season episode on YouTube on November 20. The main series itself is set to stream in spring next year.
Plott is no stranger to the short-anime format. The company is behind web anime shorts including Teikō Penguin and Konketsu no Karekore, and its channels draw more than 900 million monthly views, with over 14 million subscribers in total.
