Anthropic has launched a new suite of reporting tools designed to show companies exactly what their AI spending is buying, as enterprise customers demand clearer proof of return on investment. The announcement comes as Anthropic prepares for a planned IPO and leans into its enterprise business.

Anthropic AI Spending Tools: What They Show
The tools combine internal analytics with employee surveys to give managers a detailed view of a team’s work over a chosen period: what the team produced, how much it cost, and where workflows broke down. Anthropic says it will not use this data for model training by default, and the reports will also suggest ways to improve results.
Anthropic is also introducing pooled group budgets, letting teams manage token spending together rather than in isolation. The pitch is straightforward: it is no longer enough to simply spend more on AI — companies now need to optimise that spend and understand where the value actually lands.
Why AI ROI Has Become a Boardroom Question
The context helps explain the timing. Anthropic’s recent investor figures point to strong momentum for its coding tool, Claude Code, including an operating profit in the second quarter and striking retention numbers: spending from the same customers grew ninefold between the third quarter of 2025 and the third quarter of 2026.
At the same time, many large companies are still struggling to turn AI usage into measurable gains. A new report from Jellyfish, based on agentic coding tool use by 276,000 of its customers, found Claude Code and other tools built on Anthropic models remain the most widely used, accounting for nearly a third of proposed code changes submitted for review.
That report also found spending on those tools has grown tenfold since the start of the year, reaching about 2 percent of total engineering cost. As Jellyfish’s chief scientist put it, that rapid growth is something most finance chiefs did not plan for — which is exactly why tools that track, explain and improve AI spending are becoming essential, not optional.
