Robert Stone has opened up about one of wrestling’s great double lives: holding down a job as a high school teacher while wrestling on national television for TNA under the ring name Robbie E.

Speaking to Pro Wrestling Illustrated in a recent interview, Stone recalled how he wrestled independently throughout college, earned his degree and was hired as a high school physical education and health teacher in a town near where he grew up. Then, in his second year of teaching, came a tryout with TNA — and a contract offer.
Robert Stone Teaching Job And TNA Contract
The money, Stone admitted, was far less than his teaching salary at the time. But after almost a decade in wrestling, he was not about to turn down the opportunity. He attempted to resign from his teaching job — only for the school to encourage him to stay, telling him that whenever he could not be there because of wrestling, that was okay.
That support changed everything. Stone kept drawing a teacher’s salary while earning his first wrestling contract money, giving him a financial foundation as he became a full-time wrestler. The arrangement, though, made for a surreal weekly routine.
Robbie E X Division Champion And Classroom Double Life
Stone would appear on live TNA television on Thursday nights, fly home on Friday morning, get someone to cover his first period, and walk into school still with hair gel in his hair from the night before. He even brought his X Division Championship — a title he won during his TNA run — into school, where students who had watched him on Spike TV the night before would fist-pump him in the hallways.
It was, as Stone put it, a wild time: on television on Thursday, in the classroom during the week, with students watching their teacher perform on national TV. Years later, he still hears from former students who reach out on Instagram or X about those days.
Elsewhere in the same interview, Stone also shared his belief that Kendal Grey and Kelani Jordan will one day main event WrestleMania — a bold prediction from a man who knows better than most what the road to the top really looks like.
