WWE president Nick Khan reportedly had conversations with former WWE creative chief Vince Russo about a possible return — but sources inside WWE headquarters are not sure how serious those talks ever were.

The update comes from Fightful Select, following a column by Conrad Thompson on Uncrowned which reported whispers that Russo was in talks this past summer to return to the WWE creative team.
Nick Khan and Vince Russo WWE Talks: What Sources Say
According to Fightful Select, sources at WWE HQ said they heard Khan had conversations with Russo, but were unsure how serious they were. Sources familiar with the situation added that Russo was either at WWE HQ at one point or was under consideration for a visit there — though the news did not make it to the rest of the WWE staff.
That distinction matters. A conversation is not a deal, and the sourcing so far stops well short of saying Russo was hired, offered a role, or brought into the current creative process in any formal way. For now, the story sits firmly in the “talks happened, seriousness unclear” category.
Why a Vince Russo WWE Return Would Be Huge News
Russo was on the WWE — then WWF — creative team in the late 1990s, a period that helped define the company’s most famous boom era, before he made the jump to WCW. His name still sparks fierce debate among wrestling fans more than two decades later, which is exactly why even unconfirmed whispers of a return travel so fast.
Any Russo return would also raise obvious questions about fit: today’s WWE creative operation, leadership structure and on-screen product look very different from the late-1990s environment Russo last worked in. That may be part of why sources are stressing uncertainty rather than celebrating — or condemning — a done deal.
Until WWE or Russo confirms anything further, this remains a backstage whisper rather than a hiring announcement. But with Thompson’s column and Fightful’s HQ sourcing now both in the open, it is a whisper the wrestling world will be watching closely.
