The new cast additions fill out the supporting newsroom of the fictional Tōzai Shimbun newspaper at the heart of the story. Tōru Furusawa plays Hideo Tanimura, the deputy editor-in-chief and Culture Department manager, while Kōsuke Echigoya joins as Tomio Tomii, the Culture Department’s deputy manager. Nobuo Tobita takes the role of Taizō Ōhara, the owner of the Tōzai Shimbun, and Hiroshi Naka plays Kyōichi Koizumi, the paper’s director and editor-in-chief.
Rounding out the new additions are Kyō Yaoya as Kinue Arakawa and Hiroko Ushida as Noriko Mitani, both reporters in the Culture Department. They join a cast headlined by the returning leads from the classic adaptation.
Yui Makino and Skoop on Somebody Perform Shin Oishinbo Theme Songs
On the music side, singer Yui Makino will perform the opening theme song “PROMISE ME,” while the band Skoop on Somebody performs the ending theme “Akashi” (Proof). Both artists bring a warm, soulful feel fitting for a series built around food, family, and quiet drama.
Behind the scenes, Ken’ichi Nishida (Good Bye, Dragon Life) is directing at Synergy SP and Vega Entertainment, with Takahiro Nagano handling series scripts and Nozomi Kawashige designing the characters. Shinei Animation is in charge of production.
The original Oishinbo manga launched in 1983 and ran for 111 volumes before going on hiatus in 2014, depicting the “fierce food showdown” between the Tōzai Shimbun’s “Ultimate Menu” and gourmand Yuzan Kaibara’s “Supreme Menu.” The earlier TV anime aired 136 episodes from 1988 to 1992. After more than three decades, the new series gives the franchise its first full TV return — and the 2027 premiere is now firmly on every classic anime fan’s calendar.
