Tommaso Ciampa finally got his chance at an RKO out of nowhere — and whiffed it spectacularly. During AEW’s time in St. Louis on Wednesday, the former WWE star mistook Kyle Fletcher for Randy Orton and charged at him with the iconic move, missing and landing on the trainer’s table.

The backstage incident is a callback to Ciampa’s WWE days, when he reportedly tried his best to hit the RKO on Randy Orton any time he saw him backstage. Now that he’s in AEW, Ciampa can no longer RKO Orton himself — but he can attempt to RKO a person who looks like Orton.
Tommaso Ciampa’s RKO obsession
Spotting what he thought was Orton in St. Louis, Ciampa saw his chance to finally claim victory with the RKO out of nowhere. He charged at the Randy Orton-like figure, only to miss the move entirely and crash into the trainer’s table. The Orton lookalike, of course, turned out to be Kyle Fletcher.
Fans have long found comedy in the pairing — Fletcher’s resemblance to Orton is uncanny enough that Ciampa’s mistaken charge is almost understandable. Still, the whiff leaves Ciampa’s RKO count at zero.
AEW Fright Night Dynamite aftermath
The moment came as AEW continues its Fright Night week in St. Louis, with Dynamite delivering its usual dose of Halloween-week chaos. Whether Ciampa ever lands the move — or finally gets a real shot at Orton himself — remains one of wrestling’s funniest open questions.
