Tow Ubukata Leads Death Stranding Isolations Scripts
The biggest new name on the roster is Tow Ubukata, who will oversee and write the series scripts. Ubukata is best known for the Mardock Scramble and Bye Bye, Earth novels and for scriptwriting on Ghost in the Shell Arise and Psycho-Pass 2.
Directing the series is Takayuki Sano, an episode animation director on Attack on Titan The Final Season and Bullet/Bullet, at studio E&H production (NINJA KAMUI). Original character designs come from illustrator Ilya Kuvshinov, with Hideo Kojima serving as executive producer.
Death Stranding Anime Story and Cast of Characters
The story is set in North America immediately after Sam reconnects the continent via the Chiral Network. As America is reborn, the renewed connections bring unforeseen consequences. At the center is a young girl forced into absolute isolation who grows to prefer solitude, severing all ties with the outside world — until chance encounters launch her into a world she does not recognize.
She is joined by an eclectic cast: a wise old man who connects people by a method that defies reckoning, a female soldier trapped in a cycle of war, and a boy seething at the absurdity of his life. Kojima first hinted the animation was in the works in a Vogue Japan interview in May 2025.
The Death Stranding universe is expanding on multiple fronts: a separate anime feature film with the working title DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO is in production at ABC Animation Studio, and a live-action film from Hammerstone Studios with director Michael Sarnoski is also on the way.
