Former Movistar Plus content chief Domingo Corral sees his production deal with HBO Max as the route to a long-held ambition: making independent TV and film that is both mainstream and premium in quality.
Corral’s shock exit from the Telefonica-owned Movistar after 11 years in May 2025 was followed in March this year by the announcement that his new career as an independent producer was taking off — with an HBO production deal in place.

Domingo Corral HBO Deal: What He Will Make
Announced at Series Mania this year, the deal puts the Sîrat executive producer in a creative partnership with HBO Max originals chief Sarah Aubrey and Casey Bloys — both now part of the senior content team at the merged Skydance business — to create scripted TV and film productions.
The first project is already taking shape: a drama about the disappearance of petty criminal El Nani (aka Santiago Correla) in 1980s Spain, during the country’s transition out of dictatorship and into democracy — a rich, turbulent period that has long fascinated storytellers.
Quality TV That Can Be Commercial
Corral’s thesis is a direct challenge to the old industry divide between art and commerce. Quality TV can be commercial, he argues — and as an independent producer, he no longer needs to answer to a corporate slate to prove it. The HBO deal gives him one of the most powerful platforms in television to make that case.
The move also marks another notable talent flow into the post-merger Skydance ecosystem, which has spent the week restructuring its leadership from the top down.
