Cody Rhodes revealed one of his favorite commentary moments ever — the night Wade Barrett dropped a one-liner at WWE SummerSlam 2025 that perfectly captured his championship win over John Cena.

Speaking on the Double Coverage Podcast, Rhodes recalled the exact moment from the match. After he kicked out of one of Cena’s AAs, Barrett and Michael Cole on commentary could not believe it — and Barrett blurted out a line that has stuck with Rhodes ever since: “Superman meet Superman.”

Rhodes said he would have gladly paid Barrett to come up with the line himself — but the fact that it was spontaneous made it even more validating. “The fact that he said it on his own was so validating to me,” Rhodes explained, describing the call as “the gift of a job well done.”

The moment summed up everything the match was about. When Cena’s Attitude Adjustments — a finisher that has ended countless careers — could not keep Rhodes down, the commentary team bought into it completely. “If you can get your fans to believe, your commentary to believe, the boys to believe,” Rhodes added, trailing off like a man who had lived it.

The interview was a love letter to WWE’s commentary desk. Rhodes spoke at length about how much the right call means to a wrestler in the ring — proof that when the story lands, even the announcers lose themselves in it for a moment.

Elsewhere in the same conversation, Rhodes also opened up about being nervous to ask Triple H about stepping away from WWE to film the upcoming Street Fighter movie, showing once again how candid the Undisputed WWE Champion has been during this media run.
