Dubai-based indie director and writer Faisal Hashmi has officially launched Spine Drop Pictures, a genre-focused production company, and unveiled its inaugural slate of three horror features — a nicely timed announcement for Halloween.
The company marks a major step up for Hashmi, who has spent 15 years building a loyal following with 10 contained, high-concept genre shorts known for their chilling twists. Titles like Amber, Wicken and Skipped have screened at scores of film festivals and racked up more than three million combined views on YouTube.

Who Is Faisal Hashmi?
Named Independent Filmmaker of the Year by Digital Studio Magazine, Hashmi is one of the UAE’s most recognised independent filmmakers. His breakout run in the horror genre includes shorts like Scrambled, Cold Feet and Sleight, which screened at more than a dozen horror film festivals across the US, Europe and Asia, winning multiple awards. Cold Feet even won the audience award at the 48 Hour Film Project in Dubai.
Earlier in his career, Hashmi worked across formats — from brand campaigns to a Dubai Tourism documentary for the #myDubai campaign that premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival in 2014, and documentaries including filming the devastating floods in Pakistan.
What Spine Drop Pictures Means For Horror Fans
With Spine Drop Pictures, Hashmi is going all-in on genre filmmaking, moving from celebrated shorts to a full slate of horror features. The announcement was previously telegraphed by the director himself, who revealed he was developing an independent horror feature film alongside several ambitious short-film projects.
Details of the three features are still under wraps, but fans of his contained, twist-driven shorts have every reason to watch this space.
