Speaking on the Double Coverage Podcast, Cody Rhodes named his favorite championship in wrestling — and it is the one he has won three times since returning to WWE in 2022: the WWE Championship. Rhodes knew exactly how the answer would land, calling it “such a corporate answer” up front.
“My number one, and this is going to be, everyone’s going to go, ‘Ah!,’ I think it’s such a corporate answer, it’s the one I won. It’s the WWE Championship,” Rhodes said. “In 10 years, complain all you want, when these kids are talking about that’s my favorite title, it’s because it’s the one that they had. It’s the one they grew up with.”
Cody Rhodes on the WWE Championship as a “walking billboard”
Rhodes acknowledged the criticism directly: “People will say, ‘Oh, it’s a walking billboard.’ Yeah but it’s also connected to people. It’s connected to John Cena. It’s connected to Roman Reigns. It’s connected to me.”
He pointed to the merch reports at the end of each night — fans still love the little old-school Velcro belts — and argued time will prove the title a winner, connecting generations of kids who grew up with it.
The spinner title vindication
Rhodes cited the spinner championship as proof that designs fans pan at first can become beloved. “The spinner, at the time, I don’t know if you remember the spinner was heavily panned and it was criticized,” he said. “Today when I did this big title presentation, I remember people, ‘Oh, thank gosh, he has the spinner.’ They should do it for the spinner. Where were you guys?”
Elsewhere in the interview, Rhodes also addressed rumors he pitched to lose his title — denying them flatly — and discussed the WWE NIL system.
