Japanese wrestling star Fujita “Jr.” Hayato is coming back to the ring. Hayato announced he will step down from his role as Michinoku Pro commissioner and return to in-ring competition in 2027, where he will wrestle reigning Tohoku Junior Heavyweight Champion Sangre Azteca Jr.
The announcement is remarkable given Hayato’s health battles. In late 2018, he revealed he had been diagnosed with a spinal tumor and ependymoma. He fought his way back in 2022, winning the MPW Tohoku Junior Heavyweight Championship and the LIDET UWF Championship — but stepped away again in 2024 when his cancer symptoms returned.
Fujita Hayato’s road back to the ring
Hayato’s first comeback was one of Japanese wrestling’s most emotional stories, and this second return may be even more meaningful. He did compete in an exhibition match in June 2025, a tentative step that has now led to a full return being planned for 2027.

While he has made his home at Michinoku Pro, Hayato has also competed for GLEAT, Pro Wrestling ZERO1 and NJPW across Japan. His 2027 match against Sangre Azteca Jr. will pit him against the reigning Tohoku Junior Heavyweight Champion — fittingly, a title Hayato himself once held.
