Clayface Box Office: Elizabeth Holmes Doc You Can See Everything Edges DC Movie on Halloween Weekend

Halloween weekend delivered one of the closest domestic box office finishes of the year. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary, You Can See Everything, narrowly edged DC’s Clayface $10.6 million to $10.4 million at the domestic box office, though the final positions could still shift when Monday’s actuals are tallied.

You Can See Everything Box Office Defies Expectations

The documentary about the controversial Theranos founder is now in its third weekend in theaters, and its staying power has become the story of the fall movie season. Originally released to just 855 theaters on October 16, the film has ridden strong word-of-mouth and glowing reviews to a remarkable run.

IGN gave the film a rare 10/10, and movie social media platform Letterboxd even noted it quickly became its highest-rated feature film ever. Its first weekend landed it in second place behind Street Fighter, and it returned to second when Clayface introduced moviegoers to a new Gotham City last weekend.

This time, with the spooky holiday bolstering the atmosphere, many wondered whether DC’s body horror movie could fend off the competition. Holmes’ story persevered.

Clayface Still Leads the Global Box Office

The domestic battle doesn’t tell the whole story. You Can See Everything has a limited international rollout, so Clayface comfortably took the global crown for the weekend with $22.8 million.

Both films actually performed well over the three days. The documentary dropped just 43% after a box office increase in its second weekend, while Clayface fell 57% in its second bout. Both also carry relatively modest budgets: the doc reportedly cost less than $20 million including production and marketing, while Clayface has a $44 million production budget.

So far, You Can See Everything has accumulated $64 million total, with Clayface sitting at $82.9 million globally.
