Cody Rhodes has named the strongest wrestlers he’s ever been in the ring with — and his comments about Brock Lesnar stand out. Speaking on the Double Coverage Podcast, Rhodes said what made Lesnar truly scary in the UFC wasn’t his size. It was how fast he was.

Cody Rhodes on Brock Lesnar’s Speed in the UFC
“It’s an easy one because it’s going to be a combination,” Rhodes began, rattling off his list. “Mark Henry had kind of the reserve strength. The World’s Strongest Man was the world’s strongest man… Big Show had reserve strength. Those two for sure. Big E was breaking records at every gym across the country… Cesaro, unbelievable strength. Obviously Cena’s up there in the strength category. I think Bron Breakker is like that now, and then you mentioned Brock.”
Then came the part that stood out: “But I think the thing people forget about Brock, and if you watched him at UFC, you knew this about Brock. It wasn’t the fact that this giant, hulking, fearsome looking individual was coming after you. It was how fast he was. His speed was genuinely terrifying from a performative standpoint. He just was one of one, unicorn.”
The list also had a fun footnote: Rhodes mentioned Mark Henry‘s legendary lifting days, noting that Henry won the Arnold Strongman Classic in 2002 — the kind of detail that reminds you just how deep the talent pool in Rhodes’ career really is.
Brock Lesnar Remains WWE’s Defining Athlete
Elsewhere in the interview, Rhodes also shared his belief that modern WWE stems from WrestleMania 40 — a claim that continues to fuel debate about where this era of the company truly began.
Between this interview and Paul Heyman’s recent claim that Lesnar would still be UFC Champion at 49 if not for diverticulitis, it’s been a Brock Lesnar-heavy news cycle — and Rhodes’ praise is arguably the most grounded of the bunch. Size, Rhodes is saying, was only half the story. The speed was the nightmare.
