Major League Wrestling has found its new head of live events — and the transition happened weeks ago, before anyone noticed. Rafael Morffi, who previously worked behind the scenes for Tony Khan’s AEW, has stepped into the role of Senior Director of Live Events at MLW, replacing Mike Kitlas.

Rafael Morffi’s MLW Role Began a Month Ago
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Morffi actually took over Kitlas’ position approximately one month ago — meaning MLW had already completed the transition before Kitlas’ departure became public.
Kitlas had served as Senior Director of Live Events since 2019 and previously worked for Madison Square Garden. He’s moving on to a new position with Real American Freestyle. PWInsider noted that Kitlas was extremely well-liked within the company, known for being among the first people to arrive at venues and the last to leave — and heavily involved in nearly every aspect of MLW’s live event business.
AEW Experience Joins MLW’s Live Event Team
Morffi is no stranger to the wrestling business, having worked with AEW in live event operations. His move brings someone with experience at a major wrestling promotion into a role responsible for overseeing the company’s entire live event operation.
The quiet timing of the handoff is the real story here. MLW didn’t wait for Kitlas’ exit to become news before finding his replacement — the company had Morffi in place a full month early, keeping its live events department running without a gap.
