The John Cena Classic might be getting a deeply personal venue. Per WrestleVotes, if WWE goes with the December 19 date that has been floating around, there has been talk of staging the tournament at Cena’s own college, Springfield University — just a few miles from Hartford, Connecticut. The logic lines up: SmackDown is scheduled to return to Hartford’s XL Center on Friday, December 18, so holding the Classic the next night nearby would conveniently move talent from one show to the other. “The date raised some eyebrows and makes sense. The location of that SmackDown beforehand makes sense,” WrestleVotes said on a Q&A session.
John Cena Classic Date: December 19 vs. AEW Worlds End
December 19 had already emerged as a favorite based on WWE’s packed December calendar, per Dave Meltzer, though December 5 remains another possibility. WrestleVotes stressed the venue and date are not confirmed — but the combination has them making calls.
Going with December 19 would create direct competition: AEW Worlds End is scheduled for the same night, meaning WWE could have Cena’s tournament running opposite one of AEW’s major pay-per-views.
Cena Promises John Cena Classic Details on Raw
Cena promised to finally provide actual details about the tournament during his November 2 appearance on Raw at the Barclays Center: “The wait is over, the speculation ends 11/2. Let’s build this ‘Never Seen’ CLASSIC!”
