Minkah Fitzpatrick Sums Up Jets’ 38-33 Raiders Collapse With ‘Jets Being Jets’ After Another One-Score Loss

New York Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick didn’t mince words after the team’s latest heartbreaking defeat. Following the 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Fitzpatrick summed up the team’s familiar way of losing with a phrase Jets fans know all too well: “Jets being Jets.”

Jets Blow Nine-Point Lead as Minkah Fitzpatrick Delivers Brutally Honest Assessment

The Jets held a nine-point lead over the Raiders with under nine minutes to play in the third quarter, only to be outscored 17-3 the rest of the way as Las Vegas snapped a four-game losing streak. The defeat dropped New York to 2-6 on the season and wasted a season-high 439 yards of offense.

“Some bad penalties, bad mistakes,” Fitzpatrick said after the game, per multiple reporters. “Jets being Jets.” The team’s PR staff quickly reached out to the reporters to clarify that Fitzpatrick actually said “Jets beating Jets,” but as one outlet noted, it amounts to the same thing either way.

The pattern is impossible to ignore. Only two of the Jets’ games this season have been decided by more than one score: the Week 1 win over Tennessee and the Week 4 loss to Chicago. Every other contest has come down to the wire — and almost every time, New York has found a way to lose.

Jets’ One-Possession Losses Are Piling Up Under Aaron Glenn

The Jets let a 10-point fourth-quarter lead slip away against the Packers, fell 31-24 in Detroit in Week 3, and watched a win over a previously winless Dolphins team turn into a loss after their defense got torn apart on the ground in Week 7. Sunday’s collapse followed the same script: the defense wasted a strong offensive showing, with costly penalties and missed chances defining the closing minutes.

With the grace period over for head coach Aaron Glenn, the question is whether this team can learn how to finish. As Fitzpatrick put it, the Jets know how to keep games close — they just don’t know how to win them.
