Paul Heyman has spent his career managing chaos on WWE television, but nothing prepared him for the phone call he got from his daughter during COVID-19 — she had been in a bad car accident just 10 minutes after leaving home to get something to eat.

Speaking to Graham Bensinger, Heyman recalled that while everyone’s first instinct would be to ask what happened, his only question was: “Are you okay?” He immediately grabbed his son Jacob and rushed to the scene.

Paul Heyman Daughter Car Accident: The Other Driver Was on His Phone

When Heyman arrived, police explained that another driver had allegedly been on his phone when he smashed into his daughter’s car, totaling her vehicle. Seeing the wreck, Heyman was stunned she walked away at all — and grateful for the one demand he’d made when she got the car: five-star crash protection.

On the drive over, his daughter called again to insist the crash wasn’t her fault. His answer was instant: “I don’t care. ‘Are you okay?’ ‘Yes.’ All that matters to me. Everything else we can solve.”

The Lesson Heyman Took From His Father

Heyman said his reaction came straight from how his own father raised him — check that your child is safe first, discuss the rest tomorrow. “Instead of am I at a hospital grieving over some tragic thing that happened to my child, let alone am I sitting there the next 48 hours picking out a casket? That comes from my father.” Behind the promos and personas, it was simply a terrified father hearing the one answer he needed.
