Neve Campbell Confirms Scream 8 Return as Sidney Prescott
Asked what she has in the works, Campbell first joked that she can never talk about the movie — then gave away the one thing every fan wanted to hear: “Scream 8 … that’s in the pipeline as well,” she said, laughing. “I’ll be in it.”
Nobody at Spyglass Media or Paramount Pictures has formally announced the film, making Campbell’s own words the first confirmation that the eighth installment is moving forward. Her casting was close to a foregone conclusion after “Scream 7” became a record-breaking hit.
Scream 8 Production Status: Writers Hired, No Director Yet
Here’s where the project stands: Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, the “Poker Face” showrunners, were hired to pen the script back in March 2026. There is currently no director attached — franchise veteran Kevin Williamson, who directed “Scream 7,” has said he won’t return behind the camera, though Courteney Cox has reportedly expressed interest in the job.
The success of “Scream 7” is what fast-tracked the sequel. The 2025 film was the franchise’s biggest opening ever and went on to become its highest-grossing installment at $208 million worldwide on a $45 million budget, according to Variety. Campbell had previously returned to the franchise for that film after a pay dispute kept her out of “Scream VI.”
With Sidney Prescott back on board and the Zuckermans writing, “Scream 8” is taking shape — even if a release date and the rest of the cast are still under wraps.
