EXCLUSIVE: SOKO remains a big seller internationally, with a raft of buyers snagging the German crime drama.
As MIPCOM started in earnest, ZDF Studios shared news of recent international sales with Deadline. Long-running crime series SOKO has traveled to 12 broadcasters this year, including Walter Presents in the UK, RTL Croatia, Talpa in the Netherlands and Canal+.
As the market got underway, ZDF Studios said it has shopped over 500 hours so far in 2026 to buyers in over 20 territories. SOKO has been one of German pubcaster ZDF’s most successful crime drama series for many years. The latest Season premiered on 2 October.
In terms of established franchises, Mountain Medic and Alpine Rescue have gone to TV2 Denmark, Prima TV in the Czech Republic, and TVS in Poland while romance series Rosamunde Pilcher and Inga Lindström sold to Mediaset Italy, Nova TV Bulgaria and TV3 Baltics among others.
Distributor ZDF Studios has also been shopping younger-skewing fare to buyers ahead of MIPCOM. Vampire series Love Sucks has been licensed to Amazon, Apple, Disney Germany, Sky Switzerland and France Télévisions.
At MIPCOM, ZDF Studios’ scripted highlights include YA series High Valley, which featured in the Deadline Dozen roster of the hottest dramas at the Cannes market.
“The international demand for German scripted content remains very strong,” said Tim Gerhartz, Chief Commercial Officer, ZDF Studios. “Established brands such as Mountain Medic, Alpine Rescue, The Rosenheim Cops and the SOKO franchise continue to perform exceptionally well internationally, demonstrating their reliability and enduring appeal with broad audiences.
He added: “At the same time, we are seeing growing interest in a new generation of German series with a younger audience appeal.”

EXCLUSIVE: A+E Global Media is leaning into the “extraordinary power” of K-pop, and has been for some time.
International boss Patrick Vien and Korea chief Youngsun Soh detailed a strategy that taps into the popularity of K-pop stars from those first breaking through at local agencies to when they become global success stories.
They were speaking with Deadline as A+E, which recently rebranded from Networks to Global Media to reflect its worldwide reach, soon turns 10 in Korea, having launched the History and Lifetime channels there in 2017.
“There are different buckets to what we do but the extraordinary power of K-pop plays a very important creative role in the kinds of shows we make and the casting choices we make, which influences our success,” said Vien. “To me that’s one of the most interesting aspects of our story. We used to live in one Hollywood and now we live in several, and Korea is one of them.”
Soh summarized: “If there is a recognizable K-pop idol talent in a show, this title will have great potential.”
When Deadline chats with the pair on the eve of MIPCOM, where A+E will once again have a big presence on the Croisette, Vien and Soh come with receipts.
Of the 14 original Korean drama series A+E has made since 2017, the vast majority have featured K-pop talent. These include Astro singer Cha Eun-woo, who has 46 million Instagram followers and starred in A Good Day to Be a Dog, Got7’s Park Jin-young (10 million Instagram followers) from A+E’s The Witch, and, most recently, CNBLUE’s Jung Yong-hwa, who is leading new Lifetime series Oh! My Guard alongside rising star Hong Seung-hee. The romance series follows a melodramatic star with a devastating secret, and a woman who, after an accident, comes to believe she is the heroine of his drama.
“We have this expertise and area of specialty to build mainstream, K-pop-backed scripted shows that work on big network television in Korea, can work on Lifetime, and can work on streaming platforms like Hulu,” said Vien.
A+E has a “solid relationship with the local community” and this helps with talent relations, according to Soh. While sometimes A+E will attract a K-pop star once they are already established, A+E is also working closely with the local Korean management companies that blood the next generation such as Fantagio, FNC Entertainment and BH Entertainment in order to spot them early.
Another way to spotlight this talent is via digital. Alongside its 14 dramas and 72 unscripted shows, A+E has now made 47 YouTube series, the company said, while in the days leading up to MIPCOM it revealed a push into microdrama, an exploding trend that started life in Asia.
One YouTube standout, which also features K-pop stars, is Nego King. Now into its eighth season, Soh reveals this one has amassed more than 200 million total YouTube views, which is four times Korea’s population.
In the long-running web series, hosts interview everyday consumers on the street and then negotiate massive product discounts directly with company bosses, securing bargains for contestants.
“This has become a proven concept where people can enjoy the creative behind the show but at the same time buy stuff through the show,” added Soh.
Being “independent from the streaming world”

A+E was talking up its K-pop chops just over a year after Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters nearly broke the internet and tore up the streamer’s viewing charts, while Disney has been seeking the next big K-pop hit via a 10-project deal plus culture fund with Kakao Entertainment.
When it comes to Korea, Vien says A+E is “very much competitive against the natural other players in the marketplace” but can also take advantage of “having an independent status from the streaming world.”
“In order to make this vision manifest it needs to engage in all kinds of partnership,” he explained.
A+E therefore co-produces with local Korean broadcasters but has also built up relationships with streamers around the world including in the States. Hit rom-com series Love in Sync, for example, airs on Hulu in the U.S. plus Disney+ in Japan and Korea. “Big global streaming platforms are our distributon partners; we work with them,” added Soh.
In this vein, the pair say they can continue taking an agnostic approach to content in one of the most exciting regions of the world, sometimes airing their content in Korea via their own networks but also pairing with local or global streamers.
As MIPCOM starts in earnest, Vien says A+E is enthused by the “extraordinary internationalization” of taste not just in Korea but in places like Latin America and Turkey, where shows are selling fluidly between territories.
“We’re very lucky that Youngsun and her team have demonstrated so much success and built such extraordinary partnerships in markets like Korea because that’s vital,” he added. “We’re very focused on finding all the ‘Hollywoods’ and building business plans that allow us to invest locally and find secondary success globally.”

EXCLUSIVE: French-German network Arte has jumped aboard Steven Moffat‘s series Number 10 about a fictional UK Prime Minister.
Arte is co-producing the Rafe Spall-starring Channel 4 series about goings-on inside the UK Prime Minister’s dwelling, joining pre-buyers HBO Max Australia, New Zealand’s TVNZ, Finland’s YLE, Denmark’s DR and Norway’s NRK. Arte will air the series in France and Germany.
Number 10 is one of ITV Studios‘ cornerstone shows coming to MIPCOM and Moffat will be in Cannes alongside long-time producing partner Sue Vertue.
Notably, Moffat’s biggest ever hit, the BBC’s Sherlock, is now also being sold by ITV Studios after the producer-distributor acquired Sherlock producer Hartswood Films a little while back.
As ITV Studios hosts its annual breakfast and gets set to enter a future separate from the ITV network, it revealed a wealth of other pre-sales including provocative love story Adultery, which has sold to the same networks as Number 10, and The Dark, which has gone to buyers including BritBox for Australia, BBC Studios for New Zealand, and Virgin Media Television for the Republic of Ireland. Both are produced by ITV Studios-backed Poison Pen.
Finally, Stan’s The Killings at Parrish Station has been shopped to the likes of Canal+ in the Czech Republic and a number of Scandi broadcasters.
Tom Clark, ITV Studios’ EVP Global Sales & Commercial Strategy, said: “We are thrilled to announce extensive international sales across our slate of top-tier dramas. From the exciting upcoming dramas Number 10 and Adultery, to The Dark, The Killings at Parrish Station, and the global phenomenon Sherlock, these deals are a testament to the exceptional quality and global appeal of ITV Studios’ latest drama portfolio.”

EXCLUSIVE: The hugely anticipated documentary series with unheard audio of Princess Diana is heading to Prime Video in the UK.
The streamer has scooped the UK and Ireland rights to the series, which it will launch as Diana: Her Secret Confessions. The three-parter’s original title is Diana Unheard, and it is being sold internationally with that moniker. Cineflix Rights is across distribution.
The series has created a stir ahead of its premiere because the producers have secured access to hours of tapes that the Princess recorded in conversation with her friend James Colthurst in 1991. The tapes, which Diana and Colthurst recorded in secret, were used in Andrew Morton’s explosive 1992 book ‘Diana: Her True Story’, which rocked the Royal Family and wider British establishment.
Excerpts have been heard before, notably in a 2017 Nat Geo doc about the princess, but Love Monday TV, which produced the series, worked with Colthurst, Morton and ‘Diana: Her True Story’ publisher Michael O’Mara to gain access to them in their entirety, about five hours of audio in all.
Viewers will hear Diana speaking about her relationship with her husband, now King Charles III, as well as his wife, the now Queen Camilla. She also talks about Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, as well as her sons and family.
Speaking about the series, Love Monday TV’s Kerene Barefield previously told Deadline the female-led team at the producer wanted to change the narrative around Diana, almost three decades after her death.
In the wake of the Prime Video deal, she said: “Diana, Princess of Wales is often portrayed as a victim of her circumstances, with the narrative around her even today still being written and argued about by powerful men. By centring our series on hours of intimate recordings Diana made herself, Diana: Her Secret Confessions reclaims and reframes her own story, in her own words.
“Through exclusive access for the first time to the complete collection of these extraordinary tapes, together with interviews with those who knew her, audiences will hear Diana’s voice as never before, showing her not as a passive victim of events, but as a strong woman who is risking everything to take control of her own narrative.”
