Deonna Purrazzo has never been shy about speaking her mind, and in a new interview with The Ledgera magazine, the women’s wrestling star made one thing clear: the real revolution needs to happen backstage. The former TNA Knockouts World Champion wants to see more women in creative, talent relations, and agent and producer roles across the industry.

Proud of the Progress on Camera
Purrazzo didn’t hold back when asked what progress in women’s wrestling she’s most proud of. She pointed to how normal it has become to see women in stipulation matches and main-eventing television and pay-per-views — something that was almost unthinkable twenty years ago, when women often weren’t given the time, investment, or storylines to warrant those opportunities.
She’s lived that progress firsthand. Purrazzo main-evented three PPVs during her time in TNA/IMPACT, became the first-ever Iron Woman of IMPACT, main-evented an AEW Dynamite while under TNA contract defending the ROH Women’s World Championship, and was one half of the first-ever televised women’s Texas Bullrope match in AEW.
But Backstage Still Needs Work
“Where I think we still have work to do is behind the scenes,” Purrazzo said. “Wrestling can still feel like a boys’ club, especially when it comes to positions of influence and decision-making. I’d like to see more women in creative, more women in talent relations, and more women working as agents and producers. We’ve proven that women belong in every position in front of the camera. Now, I’d like to see that same progress reflected in the people helping shape what happens behind it.”
Purrazzo has always believed women shouldn’t get the spotlight simply because they’re women — they should get it because the work warrants it. And by that measure, she says, women’s wrestling has delivered every single time.
