Billy Gunn has some pointed advice for today’s locker rooms: handle your problems behind closed doors and do business like professionals. The WWE veteran and AEW coach aired his frustrations while discussing the backstage drama surrounding CM Punk’s time in AEW.

Speaking to Inside The Ropes, Gunn contrasted the modern approach with his own WWE days, when Vince McMahon kept backstage issues under control. Sure, wrestlers didn’t all get along — but they put that aside when it was time to work.
“I don’t have to like you to wrestle with you or to work with you. I don’t have to like you. I don’t have to do anything. I just have to do business,” Gunn said, adding that “99.9% of the guys always did that.”
Settle it in the room, then move on
When personal heat boiled over, Gunn said, the rule was simple: pull the two wrestlers into a room, shut the door, and don’t walk out until the problem is fixed. No public airing of grievances, no dragging it out in front of the locker room.
“You pull them into a room, you shut the door, and you go, ‘All right, here we go. What are we doing?’ Like, if you got a problem, we need to fix it now. We’ll fix it now so when we walk out the door, we don’t have a problem anymore.”
Gunn’s take on the modern era
Gunn took a shot at how some backstage situations are handled now, arguing that adults should confront each other, work through the problem and move on instead of letting things keep boiling over: “That’s how grown-ass people deal with it. But nowadays, we don’t, and that’s sad.”
His message is simple — you don’t have to love your coworkers, but keep the personal stuff private and get the job done. It’s the old-school code, and Gunn clearly thinks the business could use more of it.
