Cassandra Lee Morris, the English voice of Morgana in Persona 5 and Kyubey in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, sat down with Anime Corner at Anime Central 2026 for a rare interview about her most iconic roles.

The interview covers her journey from journalism into voice-over — with early roles including Yubel in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Taiga in Toradora! and Suguha/Leafa in Sword Art Online — plus her approach to voicing games versus anime.
Cassandra Lee Morris on Morgana’s “Go to Sleep” Backlash
Asked whether anyone anticipated how players would react to Morgana constantly forcing them to sleep in Persona 5, Morris admitted the scale of the game’s success caught everyone off guard. The production team told her Persona had “a cult following” and fans were already cosplaying Morgana before launch, but she said, “I don’t think anybody could have predicted how amazingly Persona 5 was received.”
The fun surprise, she added, was that “I had no idea people were gonna be so mad about me telling them to go to sleep all the time” — a reference to Morgana’s infamous nightly interruptions that became one of gaming’s most beloved memes.
Voicing Kyubey, Morgana and the Truth of Mascot Characters
Morgana wasn’t Morris’s first controversial mascot character — she also voiced Kyubey in Madoka Magica, a role arguably even more divisive. Her approach, she explained, is the same for every character: “To me, every character has a humanity to them, and a truth to them, so whether they’re a human or a creature or a mascot, I just try to do them justice, because they think that they’re real.”
Games vs. Anime: Solo Sessions, Stamina and Lip Flaps
Morris said she has no preference between games and animation — “I just love acting” — but the technical demands differ wildly. Video game sessions run about four hours of solo recording, jumping rapidly between scenes and emotions, which takes serious stamina. Anime dubbing, by contrast, is highly technical: “matching the lip flaps is super important” and “there’s not a lot of room for improv or error, because you’re always thinking about the timing.”
