Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino Bring ‘Romy and Michele 2’ to D23
Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino made a special appearance at Disney‘s D23 fan event on Friday night, ahead of their follow-up to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
Appearing in matching white ensembles, the pair took the stage with their signature Valley girl accents, revealing that in the sequel, fashion is still their lives, that they still own a boutique in Beverly Hills, and that they will now look for love.
“We’re officially Disney princesses,” an in-character Kudrow panned, as Sorvino added, “I always knew we had princess energy.”
The 1997 original, penned by Robin Schiff and directed by David Mirkin, saw Sorvino and Kudrow as Romy and Michele, two inseparable airheads who hit the road to attend their 10th high school reunion with a plan to lie about their successful careers to impress their classmates. Schiff, whose credits include Emily in Paris and Grosse Pointe, also wrote the sequel, which brings back some of the original stars along with some new additions.
Back are Janeane Garofalo as Heather, Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Camryn Manheim as Toby and Julia Campbell as Christie; they’ll be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton and Nathan Lee Graham. Unlike the first installment, which hit the big screen as a theatrical release, the sequel will stream exclusively as a Hulu Original on Hulu and Disney+.
Romy & Michele was considered (barely) a modest success at the time of its release but has gone on to become a cult classic over the years. Fervor for a sequel heated up after Sorvino and Kudrow reunited to present at the SAG Awards in 2022, and now the follow-up has finally come to life. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Kudrow confirmed “there’s a really funny script, and things are kind of moving toward it.”

Doctor Doom finally gets his closeup in the latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer.
Robert Downey Jr.’s villain is front and center in the new look of the film, which returns the actor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. It’s the same look that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con last month, but is now available to the public as of Friday night, where it also screened at D23.
As part of the presentation, Hugh Jackman sent in a clip of himself on camera, with Deadpool whispering to him off screen. “Just wanted to check in, just wondering if you might need some help rounding out the cast?” Deadpool coaches him what to say and they bicker. “I’d love to join and I might be able to convince Ryan to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.”
(Ryan Reynolds appeared at Comic-Con in character as Deadpool, where he crashed the Doomsday panel to suggest he wanted in on the movie.
The Russo Bros. direct the film, which has a sprawling cast, ranging from stars of the original 2000s X-Men movies such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, to original Avengers cast such as Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, to Black Panther‘s Letitia Wright and Winston Duke to more recent MCU additions, such as Shang-Chi‘s Simu Liu and Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. There’s also Captain America actor Anthony Mackie and Ant-Mans star Paul Rudd, in addition to Thunderbolts players Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell and David Harbour.

The feature has a release date of Dec. 18.

Kieran Culkin to Star in Animated Movie ‘Clay’ for Disney
Kieran Culkin is moulding his career to include a new animated movie from Disney.
He will voice star in Clay, which is centered on a man chosen to be a mentor — but his mentee is a moldable ball of clay, who he must keep alive on a journey through a fantastical forrest. Disney Animation’s Jared Bush made the announcement at Disney’s D23 fan event on Friday to reveal the news, and announced a release date of November 2028.
Culkin won a best supporting actor Oscar as well as a Golden Globe in 2025 for A Real Pain, and won an Emmy and a Globe for his breakout work as Roman Roy in HBO’s Succession. Coming up, he has The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in which he plays Caesar Flickerman, the character played by Stanley Tucci in the original features. He also has a role in Nancy Meyer’s upcoming movie for Warner Bros., which is expected for 2027.
Also as part of the D23 presentation, Disney Animation announced an upcoming Zootopia 3 and new additions to its project Hexed, with Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins joining lead Hailee Steinfeld in the voice cast. Sister division Pixar also showed off what it had in the works, including Incredibles 3 and Coco 2.

‘Zootopia 3’ In the Works at Disney
Last year, Zootopia 2 became the biggest Hollywood animated film of all time, landing $1.87 billion at the worldwide box office; now, a third movie is on the way.
The announcement was made during Disney‘s D23 fan event on Friday by Disney Animation head Jared Bush, with Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan also on hand. “The bunny and the snake will be back!” Goodwin declared, as Bush confirmed this iteration will see the return of its fan-favorite characters and feature the introduction of a bird-centered storyline.
The hit franchise follows optimistic young rabbit Judy Hopps (Goodwin) and sly red fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) as they partner together as rookie cops, solving crimes in the animal metropolis of Zootopia. The original 2016 film grossed over $1 billion worldwide, and nine years later, the sequel proved to be an even bigger smash.
Even before Zootopia 2 went on to break records, the team was already looking ahead, with Goodwin telling The Hollywood Reporter at the November 2025 premiere, “I’m putting everything out there trying to manifest a number three, after a much shorter break. All we’ve got to do is get everyone in the world to go see the movie, it’s not a lot to ask.”
Directors Jared Bush (who serves as chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation) and Byron Howard also had their eyes on doing more with the franchise. Bush said at the time, “If it goes well, we would spend the rest of our careers in the world of Zootopia. It’s the most fun place in the world and there’s so much left to explore. We’ve actually only seen one city on one continent on one planet. There’s quite a lot more stories to tell.”
