Anderson Cooper slammed President Trump as “shameful” for selling early access for his often market-impacting posts to his social media platform Truth Social, billed at a monthly subscription of $100,000 per month.

In an interview with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Friday’s broadcast of “AC360,” Cooper covered the expensive new Truth Social service, titled Truth API. The CNN anchor reported that 10 companies have already “signed contracts” for the subscription since its Aug. 1 launch and asked Raskin if he has been investigating the case through his role on the House Judiciary Committee.

Cooper compared the new venture to the Trump family earning more than $500 million from selling his cryptocurrency company World Liberty Financial’s token to United Arab Emirates leaders — a transaction that transpired just days into his second term.

“It is just incredible given that they’ve got the crypto company that they were paid hundreds of millions of dollars for, I think a 50% stake by a Middle Eastern regime. There’s so many ways that they are grabbing money. To do this, it’s so blatant,” Cooper said. “It’s incredible … I know there’s no shame anymore, but it is shameful.”

Raskin noted that Trump’s majority-stake ownership of Truth Social and his profiting off of market-moving information are akin to insider trading.

“That’s going directly into the president’s pocket. So, it’s a direct conflict of interest,” Raskin said. “It reminds me of those games they used to have where you had 10 minutes to take everything you can out of the supermarket. And it just seems like before the election comes, they’re trying to steal everything they can from the taxpayers and from the U.S. government, and to engage in every possible scam.”

The Intercept and the nonprofit Freedom of the Press Foundation sued Trump on Wednesday over his Truth API venture for violations of the First Amendment and Fifth Amendment, asking a New York federal court to block the president from posting official government information on Truth Social.

“President Donald Trump is charging $100,000 per month for advance access to his official government announcements on Truth Social, the social media platform he owns,” the complaint alleges. “This scheme is extraordinary, corrupt and unconstitutional.”

Truth API has drawn significant backlash since its launch, with critics arguing that financial firms will pay for premium access to Trump’s statements about tariffs, government policy and private companies, thereby giving them an early jump to trade before that information more dramatically impacts the market.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to fly high in its third weekend at the box office as it fends off newcomers The End of Oak Street and PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie.

Sony Pictures‘ Brand New Day pulled in $19 million on Friday as it heads to $67 million, which will top the domestic box office for its third consecutive frame. This would bring the Tom Holland-led feature’s North American total to $782.8 million for its first 17 days to stand at No. 5 on the all-time domestic chart, just behind Avatar at $785.2 million and topping the No. 6 total of $718 million for Top Gun: Maverick.

Warner Bros.’ dinosaur-centric sci-fi survival feature The End of Oak Street grossed $8.1 million on Friday, including Thursday previews, as it eyes an opening weekend around $20 million. Earning a B CinemaScore from audiences, David Robert Mitchell‘s film launched in 3,400 North American theaters and carries an $80 million production budget.

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor star in the movie about a family in the early 1980s whose suburban neighborhood has landed in a place teeming with prehistoric predators. It holds an 85 percent Rotten Tomatoes approval rating from critics, while its audience score stands at 77. In his review of The End of Oak Street for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney called the movie “mindlessly entertaining in a big-dumb-fun kind of way.”

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie chased down $7.3 million on Friday, including previews on Thursday and last Saturday, as Paramount Pictures now expects it to also land in the vicinity of $20 million domestically for its opening weekend. Earning an A CinemaScore from audiences to match what the previous sequel PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie received, Dino Movie opened in more than 3,500 locations in North America and has added $38.3 million from 52 overseas markets. It has a $39.5 million production budget.

Carter Young, Mckenna Grace, Terry Crews, Jennifer Hudson and Snoop Dogg are among the voice stars for director Cal Brunker’s film that brings the Paw Patrol canine heroes to a world containing dinosaurs. The previous sequel, 2023’s The Mighty Movie, opened to $22.7 million domestically in late September. That project’s $205 million global run improved upon the $144 million worldwide total for 2021’s original PAW Patrol: The Movie, which adapted the series that first launched on Nick Jr. in 2013.

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie holds an 84 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. THR critic Frank Scheck wrote that, “while the material is thoroughly juvenile, the films impart valuable messages to their impressionable viewers.”

With Oak Street and Dino Movie battling it out for third place, Universal’s The Odyssey will remain at No. 2 for its fifth weekend as it looks to collect $23 million to bring its domestic cume to $504.4 million.

During the week, Spider-Man: Brand New Day added to its array of records as director Destin Daniel Cretton‘s movie became the fastest title to swing past the $700 million mark at the domestic box office.

Friday’s big story on the cable news networks was the guilty plea of Luigi Mangione, the man who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024.

And last night Bill Maher had some thoughts.

“Luigi Mangione,” Maher said in the opening monologue of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, “the guy who was getting the runaround from the healthcare system about his bad back? So, he murdered a healthcare executive randomly. That guy. He pleaded guilty in court. He said, ‘I shot Mr. Thompson and I knew what I was doing.’

Maher continued, “And the Mangionistas – that’s what they call the groupies outside the courthouse, they took it hard. One of them said, ‘I don’t think this is a concession or admission of guilt.’ Bitch, he just said that he did it, okay?!”

The punchline, such as it was: “On the bright side, you’ll always know where he is when you call.”

In the court hearing yesterday, during which Mangione changed his plea to federal stalking charges from not guilty to guilty, the now-admitted killer said that “after years of enduring severe pain from a broken back,” he used a 3-D printer to build a firearm. “I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan, and he died…I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Mangione’s state murder trial in the December 4, 2024, killing is slated to begin with jury selection on September 8.

Also in the Real Time opening monologue, Maher took on another big story of the week: Donald Trump‘s ruse of hiding in an airport catering truck to secretly switch planes and evade a potential Iranian missile, leaving unwitting reporters and some White House staffers and cabinet members in the threatened Air Force One.

Said Maher, “He can pull this off and he can’t clean a pool?”
