Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady appears to be setting the groundwork to add to his growing list of post-playing career ventures.
At Fanatics Fest in New York City last week, Brady renewed his beef with YouTuber and WWE wrestler Logan Paul. Brady and Paul appeared to be having a heated discussion, with New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns standing next to them. Eventually, Brady took his right hand and delivered an open-handed slap to Paul’s face. Towns intervened as Brady was escorted away from Paul, who continued jawing at the future Hall of Fame quarterback. The two also exchanged middle fingers Sunday while watching the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium.
The video of Brady’s slap was posted by the official WWE account on X, who also later posted Brady acting as The Undertaker. Brady also posted the video of him slapping Paul on his own account on X with a simple caption: “Dork.”
The icy relationship between Brady and Paul, at least publicly, isn’t new. Before the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in March, an event which featured Brady at the forefront, Paul boasted about his athletic prowess to the former NFL quarterback. Eventually, as Paul and Brady went back and forth at each other, Brady dismissed Paul’s athleticism as “cute.”
“I love WWE,” Brady said. “It’s very cute.”
How well could NFL players adapt to flag football?
Fast-forward a few months to this past weekend, and Brady is now publicly asking for a role in WWE. Thursday, Brady sat down for a 30-minute interview with WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes on the podcast, “What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes.” They spent the first few minutes of the interview discussing Brady’s potential future in WWE.
“I need to get an invite,” Brady said. “I’ve been waiting for (president of WWE) Nick Khan to come up with some storyline for me to get in the mix. I feel like I’m retired from football, have an opportunity to go out there and still showcase that I’m a little bit of an athlete.”
Brady said he’s seen his longtime NFL teammate Rob Gronkowski do it, as well as Paul, and believes he could “get in there for at least one match.”
“Come on, Nick,” Brady said. “Come on, make it happen.”
Brady slapped Paul the next day.
The soon-to-be 49-year-old has been a busy man since retiring from the NFL following the 2022 season. Among his ongoing endeavors, Brady has a minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders and the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces. He’s entering his third year of a 10-year contract with Fox Sports as the network’s lead NFL color commentator.
If Brady were to add WWE to his itinerary, the next question would be about Brady’s role and if he would be a babyface (WWE terminology for the good guy) or a heel (villain).
“It’s such an easy choice; I’m a bad guy,” Brady said. “I’ve always been a bad guy. I feel like when our teams did really well, I would always go into these stadiums, and I would feel that — obviously at home it was great. But when you go on the road, and you’ve had some success in the NFL, they don’t like you. It’s an incredible feeling when you work that entire day to basically try to send the crowd home early.
“It’s a great feeling when you go on the road, with your 53 players, your coaches, to a visiting stadium, where there are 70,000 fans against you. And with three minutes left in the game, you look up in the stands, and there’s 20,000 people left, and a lot of them are now rooting for you and you realize, ‘OK, job well done today.’”
