Lewis-Skelly has made it clear that he wants to stay at Arsenal and is focused on working to try to establish himself as a first team regular at the club.

There is no denying his position in the Arsenal first team is under threat after the arrival of midfielder Guimaraes for £75m from Newcastle United, but there is also the prospect that with so many matches, Lewis-Skelly could still get the game time he desires.

But Arsenal are looking to sell members of their squad before the transfer window closes.

Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli would be available if a suitable offer was made, while Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson are not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Arsenal invested heavily in the market last summer, bringing in eight players for £250m, and they have spent over £100m in this window already while stil looking to add more players before the deadline.

They have sold Christian Norgaard to Everton for £7m and Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for about £15m, but the Gunners are aware they have to be flexible in the market as the deadline gets closer.

As an academy graduate, if Lewis-Skelly is sold he would present ‘pure profit’ in the club’s accounts.

That fact is something Lewis-Skelly is aware of, writing the caption “pure profit” on a picture of himself with the Premier League trophy when Arsenal celebrated the title at Selhurst Park on the final day of last season.

The impact of the potential sale has changed, however, with the introduction of the new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules, as any sale of a player will now be spread evenly over the length of their contract – meaning clubs won’t be able to show such an immediate boost on their books after selling an academy graduate.

At the moment it does not look like a move for Lewis-Skelly is imminent, but that does not mean his future at Arsenal is certain just yet.

Ronnie O’Sullivan suffered another setback as his poor start to the season continued with a 6-4 loss to Noppon Saengkham in the second round of the China Open.

The 50-year-old, who has won the tournament twice, was 3-1 up before losing four straight frames.

The seven-time world champion responded before losing the final frame 64-46 to add to his second-round exit at the Shanghai Masters last month.

Thailand’s Saengkham is ranked 45th in the world and has now beaten O’Sullivan in back-to-back matches.

Having started slowly in the first round, the Englishman won six straight frames to beat Wales’ Jackson Page 6-2.

Saengkham, 34, will now face Shaun Murphy, who defeated China’s Xiao Guodong 6-2.

World champion Wu Yize also crashed out following a 6-2 loss to England’s David Gilbert.

Lowdon, formerly a senior figure in the Manor/Marussia team that raced from 2009 to 2016, set up Cadillac over a period of three years and had to do a lot of the work before they even had an official place in F1, as a result of a protracted entry process.

He has likened the job of creating a new team to putting a man on the moon.

Budkowski, 49, was at Renault’s F1 team from 2017-22 through its guises as Renault and Alpine.

He previously ran the technical department of F1’s governing body the FIA form 2014-17, and had worked for the McLaren, Ferrari and Prost teams.

At Cadillac, he will join a number of old colleagues, including chief technical officer Nick Chester, who was formerly at Renault.

Budkowski said in a statement: “This is a phase of huge opportunity for the team, one that will be defined by a clear objective: maximising car development within the cost cap and turning every team function on to compete.

“That means building an elite organisation with a winning mindset – driven, relentless in the face of setbacks, obsessed with detail and process, and able to execute with precision on race day.

“My focus will be on aligning our people, tools and information flow so the right decisions are made quickly, and the performance of the car improves every time we go racing.”

Cadillac entered F1 acknowledging that it would take time to become competitive.

They are yet to score a point in the first 11 races of the season with an experienced driver line-up of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, who are both former race winners.

The team has a complicated logistical set-up, primarily operating out of seven buildings on an industrial park opposite Silverstone circuit in the UK, as well as out of General Motors’ technical centre in Michigan and motorsport HQ in North Carolina.

A new base in Fishers, Indiana, will become their new headquarters in due course, although they will retain a base in the UK.
