Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on Wednesday that it will no longer publish Hideo Kojima and Kojima ProductionsPhysint action espionage game. On the same day, Microsoft‘s Xbox Game Studios announced that it is taking over publishing for the game.

Kojima elaborated on his X/Twitter account on the same day that he got a notice from SIE in mid-June earlier this year that SIE was canceling Physint. Kojima and his game studio spent the last three months searching for a new partner for the game project, eventually landing on Xbox Game Studios.

Kojima and Kojima Productions are also developing the new horror game OD KNOCK alongside Xbox Game Studios.

Physint will star Australian actress and model Charlee Fraser (Anyone but You, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Korean-American actor and producer Don Lee (Train to Busan, Eternals), and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe (live-action Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, Shin Kamen Rider, Godzilla Minus One).

Kojima Productions stated in September 2025 that the game was still in the early planning stages, as the company was focusing on producing the OD KNOCK horror game.

Kojima’s Death Stranding game shipped for PlayStation 4 in November 2019. The game launched on PC via Steam in July 2020 after a delay from June 2020 due to COVID-19. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, the PlayStation 5 version of the game, launched in September 2021. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut launched for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in March 2022. Death Stranding: On the Beach, the second game, launched for PlayStation 5 in June 2025, and launched on PC via Steam and Epic Game Store on March 19.

The game is inspiring a film adaptation at Hammerstone Studios (Barbarian, Bill and Ted Face the Music). Director Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One) is set to write and direct the film.

As a separate project, the franchise is inspiring a new adult animated feature set in the universe of the game. The animated film will tell an original story. Hiroshi Miyamoto (Eiga Precure Dream Stars!, Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories) is directing the project at ABC ANIMATION STUDIO. The film’s working title is DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO.

Another separate project, an anime series titled Death Stranding Isolations, will debut in 2027 on Disney+.
