Tyson Fury has asserted that there is a “one per cent” chance of his fight against Anthony Joshua going ahead.

On Thursday, confirmation finally arrived that Fury and Joshua’s all-British heavyweight showdown will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday December 11 following months of protracted negotiations to stage the biggest fight in British boxing history.

Fury, though, cast doubt on the agreement on Saturday by claiming Joshua was trying to pull out of the fight, and has put his own estimate on the chances of the much-anticipated heavyweight bout going ahead.

Asked on his YouTube channel Furocity what percentage he thinks there is of the fight going ahead, Fury responded: “One per cent.

“If you’ve got a guy that wants to fight, yeah, and you’ve got a guy that doesn’t want to fight, then how are you going to make that fight happen?

“I’ve had nearly 40 professional fights, yeah, and I’ve been on top of this game for over a decade, right? How did I manage to fight all these people before you, all these champions, yeah, for all these titles that there is in boxing, but, yeah, every time it comes to fighting [Joshua]… it never happens.

“Has anyone ever asked themselves why?”

The announcement for the long-awaited Fury-AJ fight stated that Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and Dana White were staging the bout, although Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, has publicly claimed the American promoter cannot be involved.

Speaking after Johnny Fisher’s victory at the Copper Box on Saturday, White said: “I’m involved in the fight.

“If Eddie Hearn really cared about this fight, first of all it would have happened a long time ago, number one. Number two, he could finance the thing himself. I’ve said this a million times… Sell tickets, cut a TV deal and sell the fight.”

White though is now uncertain that the fight will even take place.

“That I don’t know,” he said. “The guy who’s supposed to be helping the fight has been hurting the fight the entire time. He hasn’t done the fight any favours let’s put it that way.

“We’ll all know more in the next three or four days.”

Fury also claimed that he had initially agreed for the fight to take place at Croke Park in Ireland, a venue that has only hosted two boxing matches in its 142-year history.

“In the beginning, I signed the contract to do the fight in Ireland, in Croke Park, because that’s where I wanted to do the fight, Croke Park in Ireland. So if I’d have stuck to my contract, this fight wouldn’t have happened, would it?

“There’s nothing that I haven’t agreed to, nothing. I’ll even tie concrete blocks to my boots to make this fight happen. There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do to make this fight happen.”

Despite his initial scepticism, Fury ended his interview by conceding that his signed contracts mean the fight may go ahead after all:

“I do think it’ll happen. Because from what I’m hearing, they’ve been paid already. So the fight’s got to happen.

“Not unless [Joshua] wants to give the dough back, which I can’t see them wanting to do that.”
