Channel 4 Board Appoints Louisa Compton & Ian Katz Replacement
Channel 4‘s news and digital boss along with its next content chief will be given a place on the Gogglebox network’s board.
Louisa Compton is a new Executive Board Member appointment and will sit alongside CEO Priya Dogra, CFO Lucy Thomas and Ian Katz‘s soon-to-be-unveiled replacement as head of programmes, along with chair Geoff Cooper and non-exec directors.
Compton has been a rising star at Channel 4 for a number of years and is now Director of News, Digital and Audience Trust, overseeing news and current affairs, specialist factual, sport and digital commissioning along with leading Channel 4’s approach to audience trust, editorial standards and use of artificial intelligence in commissioned content.
Dogra said: “Louisa’s appointment reflects the importance of journalism, audience trust and digital innovation to Channel 4’s future. Under her leadership, Channel 4 has become a destination for agenda-setting journalism and factual programming – and one of the UK’s most-trusted news brands. She brings to the Board deep expertise and a strong understanding of how viewers engage with high-quality content across broadcast, streaming and social platforms.”
Compton will sit alongside the next director of programmes, a role that has been reshaped now that Katz is leaving. The CEO raised eyebrows a few months back when she unveiled a new structure that will see Katz’s replacement level-pegging with Compton and highly-rated strategy boss Kiran Nataraja. All three will report to Dogra, whereas beforehand Compton and Nataraja reported to Katz.
Deadline is told Katz’s replacement could be unveiled in days, although Dogra said in the “coming weeks” at a convention last week. Multiple sources have indicated that the final two executives in the frame are former Sky and BBC Three boss Stuart Murphy, and David Brindley, the CEO of Destination X producer Twofour. Broadcast reported the names last week.

Martin Freeman & Jim Broadbent Set For Annual BBC Festive Ghost Story
EXCLUSIVE: Two of Britain’s top actors will pair up in the latest BBC Christmas ghost story special, The Bride’s Chamber.
Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock) and Jim Broadbent (The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Bridget Jones) will star in the Dickensian story, alongside Adrian Scarborough (The Chelsea Detective, Gavin & Stacey), Joe Armstrong (Happy Valley, The Hollow Crown), India Fowler (The Agency, Fear Street: Prom Queen) and Lewis Shepherd (Dear England, Lynley).
The Bride’s Chamber is considered among Charles Dickens’ darkest stories and was originally published in 1858. Set in the same year, it tells the story of a spurned and vengeful suitor who manipulates a young woman and marries her to claim for fortune. However, his murderous plan creates his own purgatory.
As is tradition at the BBC, Mark Gatiss has created the special, which is the ninth and now a staple of British TV festive season specials.
Last year was an adaptation of E.F. Benson’s The Room in the Tower, with E. Nesbit’s Woman of Stone the year before and Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lot No. 249 rounding out the past three Christmases.
Principal photography on The Bride’s Chamber took place on location in Ingatestone Hall, in Essex, UK earlier this year. The special will air on BBC Two over the festive period and play on BBC iPlayer. Adorable Media is producing, with BBC Studios handling international distribution. Isibeal Ballance is the producer for Adorable and Mark Bell is the BBC commissioning editor.
The production reunites Gatiss with Sherlock co-star Freeman. Gatiss was co-creator of the BBC show and portrayed Mycroft Holmes, while Freeman played Sherlock’s sidekick, Dr John Watson. Gatiss also appeared opposite Broadbent in BBC thriller London Spy, and both men had roles in Game of Thrones, though never shared screen time.
“It’s unusual to find a Dickens rarity, but this is it,” said Gatiss. “A weird and nasty little treasure which lurks within a work co-written with the great Wilkie Collins. A lonely inn, an incognito traveller and a ghastly tale of warped obsession. Merry Christmas!”
For the BBC, this winter will see a batch of Dickens-themed programs run, including a three-part doc exploring how the influential British writer drew creative inspiration from the streets of Victorian London after dark, while Kit Harington is starring in an adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities.

Andrew Taking Legal Action Against Police Over Epstein Files Arrest
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is taking legal action against the police force that arrested him earlier this year.
According to The Telegraph, which broke the news, the issue revolves around the search warrants used by Thames Valley Police and its chief constable in relation to his arrest. The legality of these warrants are being challenged by Mountbatten-Windsor’s lawyers via judicial review, The Telegraph reported.
The warrant was obtained a day before he was arrested and for days afterwards police were pictured searching Mountbatten-Windsor’s propeties in Sandringham and on the Windsor estate.
“Whilst our investigation into misconduct in public office continues, we are engaged in legal proceedings in relation to warrants previously obtained from the Central Criminal Court,” a Thames Valley Police spokesperson told Deadline. “As these legal proceedings are currently ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
Coming after his Prince title was stripped by his brother King Charles III, Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest in connection to the Epstein Files sent shockwaves around the world. The landmark moment represented the first time a modern British Royal had been arrested. Images circulated globally of Mountbatten-Windsor hiding in a car on the way back from the police station.
He was reported at the time to have been arrested over the alleged sharing of confidential material with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The pair’s links had been the subject of intense press coverage and speculation for years. Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied wrongdoing.
Since his arrest, Mountbatten-Windsor has been lying low on the Sandringham Estate.
