James Gunn has once again taken to social media to swat down a trio of DC Universe rumors — and in the process, he shared a major update on Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming Superman sequel. The DC Studios co-CEO confirmed on Threads that Milly Alcock has not been fired as Supergirl, despite persistent online speculation.

Alcock Still the Girl of Steel
The firing rumor gained steam after fans noticed Alcock had removed some Supergirl-related posts from her Instagram, sparking fears she had been quietly dropped from the DCU. Gunn flatly rejected the claim. She remains confirmed as Supergirl and is set to return in Man of Tomorrow alongside the returning ensemble.
Gunn also dismissed reports that Matt Reeves had departed The Batman Part 2, and shot down claims of disastrous early test screenings for Man of Tomorrow — pointing out that nobody has even seen the film yet.
First Director’s Cut Screens a Month Early
The biggest news: Gunn revealed he is showing co-CEO Peter Safran his first director’s cut of Man of Tomorrow — a month ahead of schedule. The film, which wrapped 93 days of principal photography in August 2026, is currently in post-production ahead of its July 9, 2027 theatrical release.
David Corenswet returns as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with the rivals forced into an unlikely alliance against the live-action debut of Brainiac (played by Lars Eidinger). Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion and Aaron Pierre also return.
Meanwhile, Gunn revealed he is already writing his next film while Man of Tomorrow is in the edit bay — keeping the DCU’s momentum going.
