Netflix’s Peter Rice Will Stay On as Executive Producer of LA28 Olympic Ceremonies

Peter Rice is about to run two of the biggest shows on earth at once. Netflix’s new chief content officer will keep his role as executive producer of the LA28 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, LA28 boss Casey Wasserman confirmed Thursday night.

Rice’s appointment at Netflix came in a dizzying sequence of moves that saw longtime chief content officer Bela Bajaria ousted after a decade at the streamer. That left an obvious question hanging: what would happen to Rice’s pivotal Olympics role, which he had been tapped for back in June 2025? Wasserman cleared it up in one stroke.

“Netflix Is Fortunate to Have Him”

“Peter has given the LA28 Ceremonies a vision worthy of the moment, and I am deeply grateful for all he’s accomplished,” Wasserman said. “Few people know how to tell a compelling story to the entire world at once, and Peter is one of those rare few. I’m delighted that he’ll stay with us as Executive Producer for the Ceremonies, where his wisdom and counsel will continue to shape what the world sees in 2028.”

A Veteran of Storytelling at Scale

Rice, the former chairman of Walt Disney Television and head of 21st Century Fox, was ousted from Disney in 2022 before reinventing himself as a producer on films like “Saturday Night,” “Warfare” and “28 Years Later.” He is also producing Alex Garland’s Elden Ring project. Now he adds Netflix’s entire content slate to his plate — while still overseeing the creative vision for the Olympics and Paralympics ceremonies at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium.
