New complications are brewing for the show’s slow-burn romance. In the upcoming fifth episode of “Between Steps,” Im Yoo Jin’s older brother Im Yoo Sung (Kim Min Seok) pays a sudden visit to the university research lab — and Choo Young Woo’s Park Min Jae is visibly puzzled by the unexpected guest.
The new stills show Im Yoo Sung entering the lab with a curious expression while Min Jae looks on, confused. Another image captures the siblings together in Professor Lee Ji Hoon’s (Jang In Sub) lab: an excited Yoo Sung chatters nonstop while Yoo Jin looks visibly flustered watching him.

A Secret Relationship at Risk of Exposure
Yoo Sung previously discovered a couple ring that his sister had been keeping, and he has already begun to suspect she might be dating someone. His personal visit to the lab now opens up the possibility that Park Min Jae and Im Yoo Jin’s fragile relationship could be exposed — and attention is focused on how his arrival will shake things up.
A Delicate Emotional Tug-of-War
“Between Steps,” a romance drama by the late director Ahn Pan Seok of “Something in the Rain” and “One Spring Night” fame, follows Park Min Jae, a former swimmer who lost his right leg to illness, and Im Yoo Jin (Kim So Hyun), a graduate student searching for a new path. In the previous episode, Yoo Jin’s sincere feelings were laid bare — she reached out to him through tears, trying to understand the pain he carries.
Despite Yoo Jin’s proactive pursuit, Min Jae remains cautious, unable to open up easily because of his own feelings and past emotional wounds. The production team teased that in episode five, her straightforward pursuit continues while he struggles to accept her feelings, setting up another delicate emotional tug-of-war between the two.
“Between Steps” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 p.m. KST.
