A fresh transfer saga is brewing in Istanbul. Galatasaray are eyeing a move for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, according to the latest round of transfer rumors, and the Turkish champions are long-term suitors who refuse to let this one go.
The story gathered pace after reports from Turkish outlet Fanatik claimed the 32-year-old Portuguese playmaker is growing frustrated at Old Trafford, tired of “praising the club’s history” without seeing a clearer vision from the management. With contract talks stalling, the rumor mill has gone into overdrive — and a January window move is now being talked about as a real possibility.

Galatasaray’s Summer Bid Fell Short
This is not the first time Galatasaray have tried their luck. Back in the summer window, the Super Lig champions made an offer to sign Fernandes — reported to be around €50 million (approximately £42.7 million) — only for United to reject it out of hand. The Telegraph added that Gala were ready to double his after-tax salary, with a four-year deal worth roughly €21 million a year plus a €4 million signing bonus, exploiting Turkey’s favorable tax regime.
United’s stance was blunt: any approach would be a “waste of time.” The club view Fernandes as a core player, and given the difficulty of replacing a player of his calibre in the current market, that position is unlikely to soften without a fight.
Why the Saga Is Back
Fernandes has entered the final 12 months of his contract, though United hold an option to extend it by another year — an option reports say the player would not want activated. A release clause of around €65 million that would have allowed him to leave last summer has now expired, and his current market value has dropped to roughly £30 million.
His difficult start to the season has only fed the speculation. Despite a hat-trick against Ipswich Town early on, his performances have lacked their usual composure, and Manchester United are now winless in six games after a 1-1 draw at Leeds. Some reports even suggest he rejected a new contract offer in recent weeks and wants a January exit, while others insist United remain determined to keep their skipper.
Who Else Is Watching?
Galatasaray are far from alone. Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and even Barcelona have all been monitoring the situation, believing they can exploit the contractual uncertainty. For now, United’s hierarchy say they are not considering parting with their captain — but with each passing week of a stuttering season, this story will only grow louder.
