Drew McIntyre may be away from WWE television, but he hasn’t been able to stay away from the ring. The former world champion revealed that during a three-month stay in Barcelona filming his latest movie, the itch to wrestle became so intense he tracked down a local indie ring just to get his fix.

McIntyre has been off WWE TV since WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu, and has been busy building his Hollywood resume with films including “The Last Druid” and “Highlander.” Speaking on Busted Open Radio with Bully Ray, he admitted the wrestling bug bit him hard during the Barcelona shoot.
The Itch He Couldn’t Ignore
“I spent three months in Barcelona filming ‘The Last Druid’ after I finished ‘Highlander,'” McIntyre said. “I literally lived there for three months, and I said, ‘I can’t do this. I have to get in the ring.'”
His solution came through an unlikely source — one of the film’s extras, a stuntman who happened to be a local indie wrestler. “They told me they had a ring there. I went down and just started rolling around in the ring. I was beating up some of his guys just to get my fix,” McIntyre laughed. “I feel bad for those guys with the way I wrestle. I practice the way I play, so I’m beating the crap out of them with no cameras there.”
Hollywood Drew Returns On His Terms
The training sessions reveal just how seriously the Scotsman still takes his in-ring craft, even while his acting career takes off. McIntyre has been referring to himself as “Hollywood Drew” in recent interviews, and made it clear that whenever he does come back to WWE, it will be on his terms.
With his film schedule, his shape, and his ring skills all clearly intact — those Barcelona indie wrestlers can vouch for that — McIntyre’s eventual return promises to be a major moment. The question is no longer whether he’s ready, but when WWE is ready for him.
